To meet the specifications set it was decided that although it shouldn’t appear ‘bubbly’ or inherently ‘rounded’, the shapes should give way to flow and curve. It was for this reason that there are barely any straight lines and hardly any sharp points in the letters. It was decided that the original letters, whilst fitting the criteria, needed to be bolder—these we re-drawn using the current design.

Eldon Sans

This was an academic MA project that became an exploration into the influences of type design. It aimed to understand the distinctions and similarities between writing, lettering and typography to further explore the handwritten word within historical and contemporary typefaces. A typeface was created alongside ongoing research to learn first-hand how to create such forms, and this practice was beneficial to the project.
